PRESENTATION:

Urbanism I is an introductory course to Urban Studies in Architecture’s degree. Students will be introduced into some of the most determinant elements in the configuration of city’s shape as well as urban fabric and landscape: streets, squares, plots and building typologies. Through their analysis and the study of the relationships established between them, students will be capable of synthesizing -from their own personal perspective- how cities are shaped.

The course’s ultimate goals are the development of a critical vision regarding those topics and the ability of developing urban proposals that take them into account. They will be achieved through a series of theoretical lectures aimed to understand their socio-historical fundamentals as well as practical lessons aimed to analyse them at different scales and zones that will lead to the development of an urban project.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES ACQUIRED IN THE SUBJECT:

General programme competences G03 Ability for autonomous learning and self-criticism.
G04 Ability to transfer the knowledge acquired in practical work and skills to the field of work.
G05 Demonstrate creativity, independence of thought, autonomy.
