English for Information Technology (IT) Engineers is an English language course that linguistically supports students during their studies in the field of IT and later in the multicultural workplace. English in this course (Reading, Speaking, Listening,Writing, Grammar and Vocabulary) will be taught / learned in relation to IT topics and themes. These topics and themes range from technical and academic to social and cultural.


The course starts at the high A2-B1 level and progresses into the B1-B2 (high intermediate).

Learning outcomes R01 Understand the main ideas in complex texts which cover specific or abstract topics, even when technical, as long as these are within their specialised field.
R02 Interact with native speakers with sufficient fluency and ease that the communication occurs with no effort on the part of either speaker.
R03 Produce clear, detailed texts on diverse topics, as well as defend a point of view on general topics giving the pros and cons of the different options.
R04 Apply their knowledge of English to tasks, projects or presentations related to computer engineering.


Students enrolling in this course are expected to have a minimum of high A2-B1 in English demonstrated by one of the following:

For returning students:

1- having passed English in the first year of the degree programme,

For newly enrolled students:

2-recently having passed (less than 2 years ago) an official  exam at the required level (Cambridge or IELTS exams), or

3-by taking the IML level test and achieving a score equivalement to the required level on the Cambridge scale

Subject planning could be modified due unforeseen circumstances (group performance, availability of resources, changes to academic calendar etc.) and should not, therefore, be considered to be definitive.


Teaching and learning methodologies and activities applied:

Classes are conducted exclusively in English. Students are expected to participate in class and in all class-related activities in English. Although this may be difficult for students at the beginning of the course, their linguisitc competence will improve rapidly. Classes are practical and communicative. Many class activities will be conducted in pairs and groups in the format of infomation gaps, debates, project preparation, problem solving, simulations, presentations etc. This methodology enables maximum student participation and talking time in class. It also encourages cooperate learning and meaningful interaction between students and the development of professional competences. 


During these sessions, students can ask questions, clarify concepts, ask for additional bibliogrpahy either face to face or electronically. Some tutorial time will de devoted to assistance with group work. Your lecturer will inform you about tutorial times. 

Independent Study

Students are expected to complete all independent study tasks, which will be uploaded on the PDU every week. These tasks are suited to individual sttudy and the development of reading, writing and listening skills and vocabulary extension. Students are required to upload their completed tasks on the PDU before the deadline. All tasks must be completedas they will be evaluated directly or indirectly (through participation, individual work or group work). It is therefore important that students check the PDU every week.
